Eye of Horus is somewhat of a cult brand in Australia, with a loyal fan base of customers including professional make-up artists and celebrities. It’s high-performing products are paraben free, naturally derived and rich in natural waxes and essential oils. They are also a cruelty free company so do not test on animals.
It’s is essentially a family-run business; after recognising a gap in the market and designing the branding for Eye of Horus, Holly Spierings together with friend and make-up artist Amy Lennane, sister and beauty retail expet Nicole Spierings and business entrepraneur Heather Spierings, created Eye of Horus. Eye of Horus’ mission is ‘to make every woman, no matter what age, feel beautiful‘.
The Eye of Horus Goddess Mascara* (£17) is the hero product of the brand. Due to senstivities to eye make-up, the founders’ wanted to create a gentle mascara with a natural formula that would not irritate. The Goddess Mascara contains Moringa Oil which is high in vitamins, fatty acids and antioxidants. This ultimately claims to give full and long beautiful lashes, which also strengthens and nourishes the lash structure making it ideal for sensitive eyes, as well as brittle lashes and eyelash extensions. It also has an anti-clogging, long-lasting, water resistant formula.
I have been using this mascara every day for over a week now and am loving it. Firstly, the brush is just perfect for me, it has fine plastic bristles and the wand is of medium thickness, not too fat and not too thin. It is quite similar to Lancome Hypnose Mascara, which is one of my all-time favourites! It’s anti-clogging formulation is simply fantastic meaning that there is absolutely no gloopiness or clumping what so ever, making it a dream to apply. I always like to apply two coats of mascara and this gives a lovely natural effect. I wouldn’t say it was the most dramatic mascara in the world, but it does lengthen and give slight volume and just leaves the lashes with a beautiful effect.
The most impressive feature I think is its longevity, I have worn it for up to 15 hours at a time, and have seriously had no flaking, smudging or any signs of panda eyes. This for me makes it a perfect mascara for everyday, I can put it on at 7am, knowing that when I get home from work, my lashes will look just as good as they did in the morning, I cannot fault the longevity of this mascara! Because of this long-lasting, water resistant formula, it does make it a bit tricky to remove. However, I have found a good dual-phase eye make-up remover like the Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2 in 1 Make-up Remover to be very effective.
Having never heard of this brand before, I was wandering how this mascara would perform but I am totally impressed. Personally I like my mascara to be be a bit more dramatic for the evening, but other than that it is a dream mascara. It is also perfect for lens-wearers like myself as does not irritate the eye at all. I am looking forward to trying more from this brand if their products are as good as this! Highly recommended!
