Glamglow had to be one of my most loved brands last year. All of their treatment masks are incredible as you get instant visible results, their Youthmud even made it into my Top 14 Beauty Products of 2014, so you can see how much I love it!
I was therefore super excited when I saw that Glamglow had launched two new cleansers into their collection, the Thirstycleanse for dry and dehydrated skin and Supercleanse targeted at more problematic skin and designed to “reduce the appearance of skin imperfection, absorb excess sebum oils and create a mattified Super Clear complexion”. Although I have dehydrated skin, my skin is very temperamental, brakes out very easily and is prone to congestion. The Glamglow Supercleanse Daily Treatment Cleanser ($39), sounded perfect for my skin, especially after seeing such great results with the corresponding Supermud Clearing Treatment.
Supercleanse is a mud to foam cleanser, so when dispensed from the pump bottle, looks like clay, but once water is added, dissolves down to a creamy or foamy cleanser depending on how much water you add. I use 1-2 pumps of the cleanser (which is less than the recommended 2-3 pumps, but you seriously don’t need more than this) and as I prefer a more creamy cleanse, I add just a touch of water and massage it into my skin. After a minute or so, I remove it with a warm flannel and continue with the rest of my skincare routine. I have been using this every evening after using The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Oil to remove my make up. I love the pump style packaging as it keeps the product hygienic and I find it very easy to dispense.
The cleanser itself contains K17 (a protein that helps cell repair) and mediterranean clays to detoxify, refine skin texture and balance problem skin. Bamboo charcoal provides balanced replenishment to the skin whilst licorice root extract helps to improve skin tone and calm irritated skin to reduce redness. There is also black cumin seed extract, an antimicrobial and antioxidant to provide a more clear complexion and Teaoxi, a eucalyptus leaf powder that delivers natural euclyptol, natural linolool oil and powerful flavonoids. Finally, there are also two of my favorite skincare ingredients, glycol and lactic acid that remove dead skin cells and build up for a clearer skin.
With a breakdown of ingredient claims like that, I was ready to get testing, which I have been doing daily for the past four weeks. Firstly, the smell, which is identical to the Supermud is combination of the licorice eucalyptus leaf powder. Although quite herbal and slightly medicinal, I find it quite uplifting and enjoy the process of working it into the skin. Once removed my skin feels as though it has had a mini face mask as it feels decongested, balanced and smooth. It doesn’t feel at all stripped, but very clean and refined.
Before I started using this cleanser, I was struggling a lot with jawline acne, which I know is meant to be hormonal, but mine was there permanently and I could not get rid of it. After four weeks of use, my jawline acne has completely disappeared, which I am ecstatic about! This cleanser is the only thing I changed in my skincare routine, so I know it is down to this so could not be happier with the results. Aside from that, my skin feels smooth, less irritated and my skin tone is more even, it does not feel congested anymore even at that time of the month! I thought having dehydrated skin that this may dry out my skin, but I am pleased to report that it hasn’t at all.
I am delighted with the effects of the Glamglow Supercleanse, it really has lived up to its claims by reducing imperfections, balancing my skin tone and giving me a clearer complexion. The $39 price tag, may seem expensive to some but you get 150ml/5oz of product and if you only use it once a day like I have, it will definitely last you and is 100% worth every penny. I have also cut down on the amount of face masks I was having purely because my skin felt congested, as I really don’t feel as much need for them now my skin is not as angry.
This is a great addition to the Glamglow family, which has now become a brand that I can trust and turn to for great results. I can’t wait to see what they have in store next!
