If you read my post last week, you would have read all about NYX’s new products for Spring 2015 and how much I loved the new Intense Butter Glosses. Another new lip product for NYX this season in the NYX High Voltage Lipstick ($5.99) which comes in a whopping 22 shades.
These are presented in slim packaging with the color of the lipstick showing on the top half of the bullet, which for a drugstore lipstick looks quite sleek and it makes it easy to select the shade you want to wear if you were going to have a few of these in your collection. The formula of these High Voltage Lipsticks is fantastic, they are very pigmented, yet lightweight, so your lips are fully opaque in a couple of swipes but they do not feel heavy at all. They are smooth and creamy to apply and are very moisturizing leaving your lips feeling hydrated.
For me though, I totally selected the wrong shades to try out as I don’t think that either of them suit me that well, so its harder to make a judgement on the product itself. I thought I would play it safe and picked a nude coral called Tan-Gerine and a soft pink called French Kiss. Tan-Gerine is probably the better of the two and may possibly look nicer with a tan, but just sort of blends in with my skin tone so makes me look a bit washed out. French Kiss is just not for me, it looks more subtle on the picture below but is actually quite a vivid barbie pink which just does nothing for me. This is just personal preference though and I am sure these shades would look great on others. I would like to try a darker shade out though to see how it compared.
Even though these shades aren’t really for me, I think the actual lipstick is a lovely formulation, especially for the price. It doesn’t really have any sort of smell to it so it is not offensive as some cheaper lipsticks can be and has great color pay off. As the lipstick wore off, it did get a little patchy, especially in the corners of the lips but I didn’t find this overly bothersome.
The bottom line though is that the NYX High Voltage Lipsticks are affordable, well pigmented lipsticks that and comfortable to wear and hydrating on the lips. It would be worth trying to find them in store to swatch if possible before you by though! I have not seen these in the drugstore yet, but they are available at Ulta and NYX Cosmetics online.
