In my world, September marks the start of Autumn (I know I live in the US now, but I can’t get used to calling it Fall!), where things begin to get cooler, the seasons begin to change, colors become richer and you get all cosy in jumpers and scarves. Well, apparently not in New York this year as today is probably one of the hottest days of the year at 33/91 degrees, I am literally meting, and there is not much sign of it cooling down over the next two weeks.
Therefore, it feels a bit crazy to be in full blown Autumnal makeup, a deep berry lip would look a bit out place in these mid-summer temperatures that are going on right now. The Brit in me however wants it to be Autumn, so I have adjusted my makeup slightly with some drugstore products to get me in the mood for Autumn but that are still summer appropriate.
Firstly, I have painted my nails with Essie Angora Cardi, which is a muted plum come dusky rose color that gets away from the brights of summer but is not full on berry. It is quite cool toned so makes the fingers look very sophisticated, I love it!
For the eyes, I have just discovered the amazing Colourpop Eyeshadows (review on its way), which are just so pigmented and incredible. The shade La La is a gorgeous rose gold/coppery shade that looks amazing blended all over the lid. To add definition, I have been loving the L’Oreal Infallible Lacquer Liner 24H in the shade Bronze, which is a great alternative to black. It adds the definition without being too intense and perfectly compliments the Colourpop shadow.
On the cheeks, I have been going for a dusty rose shade so the Milani Powder Blush in Romantic Rose is spot-on. It is a great everyday blush which is fairly subtle but adds that touch of color that compliments both seasons.
Finally for lips, I have been going for subtle berry in the form of Revlon Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie. This is a sheer lipstick (which you know I love, post here), and is a pinkish berry color that is the perfect balance to give the lips a slight pop of berry without being too intense for these hot sunny days!
I can’t wait to be fully immersed in the Autumn season, but until then, these products are giving me the perfect balance of shades that are appropriate for both seasons!
Come and join me!
