When I heard Charlotte Tilbury was launching a new foundation, I was all ears! I love her Light Wonder Foundation (review here), it is the most gorgeous lightweight luminous base, but her newest launch promised ‘magic’ results. The Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation (£29.50) has been five years in the making and is a ‘miracle in a bottle that transforms skin for all ages, skin tones and skin types‘, and is ideal for treating the following:
– Acne & Acne Scarring
– Redness, Rosacea, Discoloration & Melasma
– Mature Skin: Lines, Deep Wrinkles, Age Spots and Thread Veins
– Normal to Tired, Dull Skin
As someone who has always suffered with less than imperfect skin, mainly because of acne and redness, I was excited to see what this foundation could do for me.
The Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation is housed in a beautiful glass bottle and rose gold lid that comes with a pump, which I always appreciate in foundations. I have found one pump though to be a little too much product for the face, but it is easy to control should you want less than this. It has a medium consistency and is beautifully creamy which makes application easy. I have applied this with a buffing brush, a beauty blender and my fingers and no matter how I apply it I always get great coverage. It is a medium to full coverage foundation, which may be off-putting to some that like a sheerer base, but it honestly feels as light as air on the face, I really don’t feel as though I have got a lot of make up on at all. The coverage is amazing, it really does cover all my imperfections well, giving me the perfected skin that I dream of, whilst still managing to look natural.
The foundation contains something called Laricyl, which is a concentrated mushroom extract that firms the skin. This tightens pores whilst providing the skin with moisture for a comfortable, nourished yet flawless finish. It also contains one of my favorite ingredients, hyaluronic acid, which for dehydrated skin like mine, is superb at keeping it plump and firm throughout the day. Vitamin C helps build collagen and fights the effects of aging and it also contains broad spectrum SPF 15 to protect the skin from the sun. The SPF used is non-chemical, so if you break out to some chemical SPFs like I do, then this should be fine for your skin. I can report that I have suffered no breakouts at all due to this foundation.
The finish of this foundation is semi-matte, almost velvet like, so once blended into the skin sets in place well without the need for powder. One of my main requirements for foundation is the longevity, I really need a foundation that is going to stay in place all day long on my combination to oily skin. The wear time of this foundation is very impressive, it stayed in place pretty much all day, the only place where I did need to touch up was my nose, which is the most oiliest part of my face. On all other parts of my face it lasted the whole day.
The Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation has not yet launched here in the USA (due early 2016), but fortunately I had a trip to the UK a couple of weeks ago, so ordered it online to make sure it arrived whilst I was there. I ordered the shade 6, as I knew from trying the Light Wonder Foundation that this would be my perfect match for the winter months when I don’t have much of a tan, and it is a great color match. When ordering online, you also get sent 3 sample sachets, the shade you ordered and one shade up and one shade down to test out before you use the full size product to make sure it is a good color match. You can see the shades 5, 6 and 7 swatched above for reference, shade 5 was definitely too pink toned for me, whilst shade 7 was a bit dark at present, but would make a great choose in the summer months. Shade 6 is described as a neutral golden/yellow for medium skin tomes with neutral olive undertones and is the perfect match for my skin tone.
I love the perfected look that this foundation gives without feeling heavy on the skin, it really does deliver great results and I would recommend it to anyone that has imperfections to cover and wants that flawless finish.
