Review: Origins Mega Mushroom Skin-Calming Mask

This is seriously my favourite face mask of all time! Origins masks are well loved in the blogging world, but this is one that is never really mentioned, so I need to bring it to everyone’s attention! Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin-Calming Face Mask in the Dr. Weil range is targetted at people with sensitive skin and redness and aims to revitalise and restore luminosity to stressed skin and rebuild a protective barrier to help avoid future flare-ups.

I went through a bit of a bad time with my skin a couple of years ago (which is what has ignited my interest in skincare and hence this blog, so every cloud…!), where my skin was extremely dehydrated, very red, spotty, flaky and itchy, so not very nice and got me down a bit. After visiting an Origins counter, I came away with this mask which the sales assistant said would help to decongest my angry skin, calm and sooth and help with the redness and it does just that.

This is a creamy mask which is light in colour and almost goes transparent once it has been on for the allotted time. It stays creamy on the face and does not harden like a lot of clay masks do. Once applied, you almost feel an instant relief as it feels very soothing on the skin. Dont worry about it smelling like mushrooms either as, although its not the most pleasant I’ve ever smelt, is leans towards being quite herbal and actually smells quite calm (if that is possible?)!

The instructions tell you to remove it after 10 minute, but I always tend to leave it on for a little longer and remove it with a hot flannel. My skin instantly feels soothed, my blemishes don’t feel as angry and any redness is reduced. My skins also feels smoother and looks brighter. After using it for over a year, I can say that my skin is a lot better than it used to be, but obviously I cannot pin point it to this exactly as have stepped up my skin care routine a lot since then, but would say that it has definitely contributed to the improvement of it. I cannot rave about this mask enough and would say that it would be perfect for anyone with erratic, problematic or reactive sensitive skin that needs a bit of TLC. It is also recommended for anyone who gets stressed out (pretty much everyone then!), as effects of stress are shown through our skin and also skin that has been in the sun for too long. I can vouch for this as forgot to take it on my recent holiday and could have seriously done with its effects to soothe my skin.

I like to use this once or twice a week depending on how my skin is feeling, and a whole tube lasted me well over a year. So at £34 for 100ml, some may consider this expensive but lasts for ages and really does deliver great results, I would not be without it! This can be purchased from Boots, House of Fraser or John Lewis.

Has anyone else tried this mask or have any recommendations of other fabulous masks?
