Left to Right: Cashew Beige & Bamboo Beige |
I have been using Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation for about 5 months now, so I thought it was high time that I gave it a review as it has now become a staple in my make-up bag.
Originally I bought the shade Bamboo Beige as it was before the summer and was a good match for my skintone. I don’t actually have a Laura Mercier counter near me, but I use this great website called Findation.com which matches you up with different foundations based on previous foundation colour selections. It is great if you don’t have certain brands where you live, as once matched, you can then buy online. Over the summer, I had to buy a darker colour as I developed a tan so opted for Cashew Beige, which I am still using at the moment.
This foundation has a fairly thick consistency, and at first I found it a bit tricky to apply as I was basically using too much. You only need a pea sized amount to cover your whole face as it extremely pigmented and a little goes a long way. I use the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush to apply it and have found this to be the best brush to use as its densely packed bristles really buffs the foundation into the skin to give a flawless appearance. It blends into the skin really easily and you can build it up to a full coverage or sheer it out to a more medium coverage depending on how you prefer it.
I have far from perfect skin, with fairly large pores, occasional acne as well as some scarring and redness. This foundation really does a great job of covering all my imperfections leaving a natural flawless finish with a luminous glow to it. It has a hydrating formula, which suits my combination, dehydrated skin well and the most impressive thing is that it is extremely long lasting. I never feel the need to reapply during the day and even stays put on my oily t-zone, where others have slipped off before! I do like to set it with a powder however, although it would look great on its own if you prefer a more glowy look.
I really cannot fault this foundation and love how great it makes my skin look. It does not contain SPF which is actually a good thing for me as chemical suncreens in foundations break me out so I prefer to use a seperate SPF. It would therefore also be perfect for the evening and special occasions where there is flash photography as does not give any flashback on photos. I would recommend this to anyone that likes a flawless finish to their make-up and especially those that strugglewith their skin and finds it hard to cover acne, redness and scarring as it really does perfect the skin and last all day too! it is not the cheapest foundation by any means, but a little does go a very long way!
Available from House of Fraser, Space NK and John Lewis.
