Maybelline Master Concealer Review

Maybelline Master Conceal Camouflaging Concealer

New at the drugstore this Spring is the Maybelline Master Conceal ($8.99), a camouflaging concealer that claims to camouflage imperfections and dark circles. It is full coverage, has high resistance (which I had to google, and basically means it is sweat proof!), and also has an undetectable finish. When I saw this in the drugstore, it reminded me of one of my favorite concealers, the Make Up Forever Full Cover Concealer (review here), which has pretty much the same claims, so I was excited to see how it compared and whether it would be a dupe. Look how similar they are?

There are five shades in the range, so not a wide selection, but I opted for fair/medium, which I selected by the color of the packaging as there are no testers in US drugstores! It was actually a pretty close match for my winter skin tone (Mac NC30), although possibly a touch too light for my face, it was the perfect shade under my eyes. I would definitely need the next shade up once I get a bit of color on my face.

It has a medium consistency to it, so is thinner than the MUFE Full Cover but thicker than the likes of Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. I found this thickness to be perfect for covering all areas of the face, it was not too thick for under the eyes and was just right for covering blemishes and redness. I applied it under the eyes using my favorite Real Techniques Setting Brush and it blended in beautifully and did not cake or settle into fine lines at all, I was so impressed. Wearing it along side my Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, I could hardly tell the difference, which is high praise indeed.

Having troublesome skin, I always have blemishes and some redness to hide, so I really need concealers to cover well and last on my skin. I am also a bit weary of using drugstore base products, on my reactive skin as I break out at the drop of a hat, but I am pleased to report that this caused no sensitivities what so ever. I cover blemishes using the same RT brush, buffing it into the skin. This concealer did a brilliant job of hiding all my imperfections, whilst managing to look quite natural on the skin. Its creamy formula blends with ease and gives a flawless finish, if you check out yesterdays post, this is what I used as my concealer in the photos. The wear time is also impressive and seemed to last all day without much need for touch-ups.

For a $9 concealer, this has definitely given the MUFE Full Cover Concealer a run for its money. At a third of its price, I would definitely say its the best dupe around (the only thing that is different is the slightly thinner consistency)! This has become my new go-to concealer and love that it works for both under the eyes and on blemishes. It is really hard to fault!
