I rarely wear a red lip, most days I will stick to either a nude or peachy pink option, however that doesn’t stop me trying to find the perfect red for me, as there always is some occasion where you need to rock a red lip and it needs to be done with confidence.
Back in the Autumn when I bought the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette, it came with a sample selection of her then to be released lipstick line. I was playing around and swatching them and really liked the look of 714, so decided to put it on my lips. Magic happened and I just loved the way this lipstick looked on me, the tone was perfect for my coloring and I immediately added it to my wish list.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago when the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Lipstick range launched in a range of (mostly) vibrant shades and also matching lip liner, I was sold and bought the pair and am so happy I have finally found my go-to red lip now.
The UD Gwen Stefani Lipstick in 714 is the classic red lip, with a slight orange undertone that really flatters my warm complexion. It is a ‘mega-matte’ formulation, which can be a slightly drying if worn alone, however if your lips are prepped with balm, I actually find this very comfortable to wear. The upside of having such a matte formula is that it is very long lasting and stays put for hours, even through eating and drinking. I definitely think a matte formulation is preferable when wearing a red lip as more glossy or satin formulas tend to slip around and wear off quite quickly.
The matching UD Gwen Stefani 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil is the perfect companion for the lipstick and I love creating a precise shape with it before adding the lipstick. I tend to fill in the whole of my lip with the pencil, to create an even canvas for the lipstick so that it helps it last longer. Worn alone, it is perhaps a touch cooler in tone than the lipstick, but when combined it makes for a winning combination that looks stunning. The pencil itself has a gorgeous creamy formulation which makes it easy to apply without dragging the lip at all.
I think 714 is classic Gwen, she is synonomous for a red lip and this is the shade that I can typically see her wearing. Finding the perfect red lip totally gives you more confidence to wear it, I think I was maybe too shy to wear red before as had never found the right shade for me, but now I will be rocking the look more often! Paired with my new Celine Audrey sunglasses, this will look amazing in the summer! My only complaint is that this collection is limited edition so it won’t be around forever, but as it’s not an everyday lipstick for me, I’m sure it will still last me a while!
Have you tried any of the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani lipsticks? What is your go-to red lipstick, I’d love to know?
