Nars Velvet Lip Glide in Stripped

My latest lip obsession is the Nars Velvet Lip Glide in Stripped, which is the most perfect shade of nude, a medium toned beige pink that I have found hard to put down over the past couple of weeks. Nars’ most recent lip launch is fairly unique in the fact it’s a hybrid between a matte liquid lipstick and a gloss, that leaves a semi-matte, velvet like finish on the lips, whilst keeping the lips hydrated too.

I have never got the hype around matte liquid lipsticks, I read so many reviews of them claiming to be non-drying, but I just cannot get on with them, I think I must crave the moisture in my lips. When I saw the release of the Nars Velvet Lip Glides, it sounded like the product I have been looking for, so I went ahead an ordered the shade I knew I would get the most used out of, yes of course, another nude! Stripped is a nude that doesn’t wash me out, but adds just the right amount of color to the lips to give a polished look and looks really beautiful with a brown smokey eye, which is the look I wear most often.

The Nars Velvet Lip Glide is exceptionally smooth to apply and really does just ‘glide’ onto the lips, which is made effortless using the flattened doe-foot applicator which I find gives a precise application. It is highly pigmented so is opaque in one coat, but I like to apply two in this shade for a more obvious look. After the initial gloss had worn away, it leaves a semi-matte finish to the lips that is so comfortable to wear, it almost as though you have a balm on your lips so feels very hydrating and is not drying in the slightest, but also does not feel sticky at all. The only claim it does not live up to is that it is not very long lasting, but this doesn’t really bother me too much as the product is practically perfect in every other way!

There are twelve shades of Nars Velvet Lip Glides, with some gorgeous neutral pinks through to plums and deep reds, I would love to try one of the darker shades soon. They are available now from Sephora, Nordstrom and Bloomingdales ($26).
