My favorites this month are all makeup, as there have been so many things that have really impressed me that I need to share! I have not really changed up my haircare and even though I have tried a couple of new skincare products, I want to give them a bit longer before I recommend them, so check back next month for more skincare recommendations. I was lucky enough to get some of these products as Christmas presents, which is another reason why there is an abundance of makeup this month! So without further ado, here are the products that have impressed me throughout January:
The Marc Jacobs Coconut Primer has been raved about by many and I resisted for so long as I generally don’t get on well with primers. However this is perfect for dehydrated skins like mine especially in the Winter weather. It has a very lightweight fluid consistency that doesn’t feel heavy on the skin and creates a smooth base for makeup. I doesn’t really do an awful lot for hiding pores etc., but if you find your skin gets dry or dehydrated throughout the day then this will definitely help prolong the wear of your base. It is probably going to be more of a winter primer for me as I think my combination to oily skin will need something more mattifying come the summer months.
For an everyday winter glow, I have been loving the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone which I apply to the top of my cheekbones pre-foundation. It is a golden champagne color which works well with my skin tone and adds a beautiful natural glow that is perfect for everyday. If you find powder highlighters too much for everyday, then you will love this as it blends in well with foundation and doesn’t look OTT!
I have been reaching for the Too Faced Chocolate Bronzer on a daily basis. It has a matte finish which makes it a great choice for the winter months as is not luminous or golden. It is an incredibly pigmented bronzer so you have to use a light hand with this one and gradually build it up, but it is a beautiful shade that really warms up the face when you are looking pale as hell! I also use it to contour my face and even though you have to be careful not to apply too much, its matte finish makes it multi-use.
The Charlotte Tilbury Pillowtalk Lipstick had to be in my favorites, even though I have only had it for just over a week. I have dedicated a whole post to it here, but it is the most perfect nudey pink that is great for everyday and a lip color that will go with everything. It also matches the famous Pillowtalk lipliner perfectly!
The Marc Jacobs Air Blush in Flesh & Fantasy is one that I have been coveting for a while and now I can see why everyone loves it so much. It contains a bronzy nude blush and warm-toned ivory blush that combined, give the cheeks a neutral flush that can be built up by using more of the darker shade or paired down by using more of the ivory shade. It has a silky texture that blends into the skin easily and doesn’t look at all powdery, instead gives a more luminous flush that adds subtle dimension. I have also used this as an eyeshadow by using the lighter shade across the lid, with the darker shade through the crease and it looks really beautiful, so this is definitely much more than just a blush and a worthy investment!
Finally, the product that has not left my handbag is the Dior Addict Lip Glow, a rather luxe lip balm that actually works extremely well. It conditions the lips very well and once on the lips, reacts with the chemistry of your lips creating a special pink glow that is unique to you. It is a very hydrating balm and I love to keep it with me at all times so I can reapply on the-go so that when I top up my lip balm, I am also getting a subtle color too. I have my eye on the coral one next for the Spring as they are the perfect sans-mirror lip product and the delicate pink packaging is just too beautiful to resist!
